And I present to you the last of the Chic Shop series (for now)! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed interviewing everyone and perusing all the awesome vintage. This last seller has an awesome collection of 1970s and 1980s pieces, if I do say so myself. So keep reading if those are your eras of choice! Meet Angie of RoCk HouSe VintaGe.
Where are you from?
I was born in Brownsville, Texas, came to California when I was 5 and lived here ever since.. The city I live in is a somewhat small town called STOCKTON between San Francisco and Sacramento. I love it here, not too busy and not to slow.
When and why did you start selling vintage?
I started selling vintage shoes first about 9 years ago. Shortly after I started with clothing. I loved seeing my mother and aunts getting ready back in the 80’s to go to concerts like Cyndi Lauper and The Police…just to name a couple. The style was so attracting and followed me through the years; “glits and glam” is how I viewed it! So, when I started going out to night clubs and concerts I had rules in dressing myself: “Don’t shop where everyone else does” chances are, you’ll run into someone wearing the same outfit! “Don’t wear jeans” The idea is to look unique and eye catching! Plus jeans are for everyday wear. I shopped at thrift stores because there were five siblings and my mother was a single mom so we shopped at these places and I am not going to lie it was fun knowing I could get a lot for such a small price…I would find the coolest pieces and would get a number of compliments! Then I got married, and the life style changed a bit. I had all these cool pieces and no where to wear them so I started selling them and noticed people appreciated it like I did! And that in itself made me very happy to know that I must have looked fabulous!!!
What do you love about vintage clothing and fashions?
The style is what caught my eye since I was young and it’s so different from what the style today is. I’m totally taking advantage and bringing it back along with others who have the same view and appreciate the somewhat uniqueness of it today! What can I say? Vintage Rocks!
Do you have a favorite decade?
THE 70’s! The music, the style, trends, belts, shoes, down to the sexy hip hugger and high waist bell bottoms! Anything to do with the 70’s is what is instilled in me today!
Describe the type of person who would love to shop at RoCk HouSe VintaGe.
Two words in a nutshell: Fashion Forward!! Someone who wants to make a grand entrance to their favorite hot spot or who wants to stand out in a crowd. Someone that despises wearing what everyone else is wearing! Someone who is out to make a statement .. a Bold Statement at that!!
What makes RoCk HouSe unique?
Rock-House is unique in the sense that it is born in MY head.. from the items I choose to the way I style them. A pair of trousers is just a pair of trousers until I bring it to life with my unique styling and vision. We also have a variety of sizes to accommodate the “every-day” woman from extra small to extra large.
What’s your favorite part about selling vintage clothing?
I love to have a reason to obtain more inventory..((Shop)). It’s the rush of digging through racks of clothing and finding a rare vintage piece. It makes my heart flutter and my palms sweat…all with excitement!! It’s definitely an addiction that must feed! I envision how I’m going to style and accessorize the clothing.. It actually takes me back to when I was a little girl watching my Mom get dressed. I sort of have the moment of " how would my Mom wear this." The thought of having someone buy and appreciate the clothing as much as I do really make it all worth while.
Have any tips for vintage shoppers, especially those shopping online?
Yes, always have a measuring tape and imagine yourself wearing it a lot or in different ways.
Why do you think it’s important to bring vintage to the Chictopia community?
Since Chictopia is a FASHION site and to me Fashion is unique, stylish and versatile. That is exactly what Vintage is! Vintage is obtainable to everyone and at the same time environmentally friendly. Vintage can look very high end and expensive without the price tag. Let’s unite and bring awareness to Vintage and reach the masses of hungry Fashion Monsters!!!
