Confession time: I’ve never really liked colored tights. Or rather, I never gave them a chance. I know they were all the rage last year and still continue to be to some extent but for some reason I just couldn’t bring myself to give in to the trend. I’ve been in somewhat of a fashion slump lately so I thought to myself, “why not?” and gave them a try. I had purchased these new-in-package vintage Christian Dior tights via Thrift Town a while ago but never gave them a chance up until now. Believe it or not, I’m so weirded out by colored tights that I consider this adventurous. ::cue gasp::
When you step outside of your comfort zone the trick is to make it as little apparent as possible that you’re trying something new. Do you guys realize how weird it was to see myself with red legs? No one other than me would probably realize this, and that’s how it should be. I actually ended up getting used to it and really liked the look in the end! It gave my outfit that necessary zest it needed that probably wouldn’t have been there had I worn my preferred black tights.
Also, if it doesn’t work with the wardrobe you have now, don’t force it. The biggest problem I’ve faced with reinventing myself and my style every so often is how drastic the change should be. I find that when I buy articles of clothing that are radically different from what I usually wear they end up being exciting at first but later I’m left confused about how to incorporate them into my outfits. My number one rule at the moment is to avoid trying to force it! It’s ridiculous to buy one thing and end up having to buy an entire outfit based on it because your existing wardrobe doesn’t match with it.
In the end, it’s all up to you guys how much you want to change things up. If you’re the type of person who can pull off radically different styles then go ahead! However, if you’re like me, gradual change always seems to be the better solution. Baby steps, baby steps! In any case, be open to trying new things because you never know if you’ll like something unless you try. I, for one, have been swayed by the allure of colored tights and will continue to incorporate them into my outfits.

ps. Sorry guys, I’ve neglected you. I’ll return to posting regularly this week! It’s just hard to keep up with the internet when I’m sleeping 12 to 14 hours a week! I’m getting better though, I think. Here’s a sneak preview of what’s next on Coed Ugly: the leggings as pants debate.
