I don’t need to tell you that history has shown the closely intertwined relationship between music and fashion. At times, a musician’s fashion choices are almost as relevant and influential to the spectator as the lyrics written or ballads performed. The Beatles popularized mop-top haircuts, then glam rock wonders such as David Bowie ushered in a whole new inspiration of androgynous styles. The early 1990s musical groups made famous grunge fashions, and even now Lady Gaga has made a significant mark on the world of fashion; perhaps, even more than she has on music! And, let’s not forget films such as The Runaways, which featured some incredible pieces I’d love to have in my own closet. There’s no doubt about it: fashion and music are inextricably intertwined.
I have always noticed when outfit posts on sites like Chictopia reference songs by using lyrics for titles. I must admit on days when I can’t think of anything clever, I myself will insert some lyrics from the most recent song to get stuck in my head into my title. So, I thought it might be a fun exercise to showcase some of the creative ways in which our fellow Chictopians are gaining sartorial inspiration from musical sources.
And of course, we can’t finish this without one last Lady Gaga reference! Angiekje borrows some Lady Gaga lyrics in I wanna roll with him a heart pair we will be, commenting “I felt like a rockstar wearing this.”
