When chictopia announced the contest with TeenVogue, I couldn’t be more excited! And I’m such a proscrastinator that I’m entering at the last possible second. Ah well!
I decided I would remix this scarf I bought at a tag sale. Once I discovered how huge it was, I realized I could wear it in a plethora of ways. I love wearing clothes in ways theyre not supposed to be worn! I skipped the obvious of wearing it as a scarf or shawl (plus its to darn hot for that!) and instead tried it as a maxi dress, a cocktail-esque dress, and a classy skirt.
To wear it as a maxi dress, I used two safety pins and tucked it in to stay. I paired it with a felt floppy hat from a consignment shop, studded sandals from gojane.com, and my new coach willis bag I scored off of ebay.
To wear it as a cocktail-ish dress, I tucked it in and the brought the bottom half up and belted it into place. I wore it with a beaded clutch I bought at a tag sale, a belt from a thrift shop, and heels from a consignment shop.
To wear it as a skirt, I basically belted it in the middle and folded the top half over. I paired it with a tank top and necklace from forever 21, and heels from payless.
Tips for remixing a scarf
-Safety pins are your friend! Use them to hold it in place and play around with the different shapes you can create.
-Tucking the top into a strapless bra helps it stay up.
-The bigger the better! I was lucky enough to be able to create a maxi dress because of how huge this baby was!
- Don’t be afraid of pattern. Paired with suddle and interesting accesories a lot of pattern doesn’t have to be overpowering.
