emilyviveur 's Thoughts:

My black tank dress is easily one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe! Perhaps it’s very simple, but it’s the perfect piece when it comes to versatile clothing (and great for someone who dislikes wearing the same outfit again!). It’s inexpensive, can be dressed up or down, worn by itself, or layered in many ways. Here I’ve used the tank in three different ways, for three different styles, and for three different occasions.

Look One (Photo 1):
This look is meant to be for everyday. I dressed it down with distressed shorts and boots, and gave it a touch of a hippie/bohemian vibe with the crochet top and braided headband. One of the aspects of the tank dress that make it so useful to me is that I can easily tuck it into shorts and skirts (I usually just tuck in the front for layering with an effortless feel, which is what I’ve done in this look).
-black Sky tank dress
-black Forever 21 crochet top
-denim Madewell shorts
-Boutique 9 lace up boots

Look Two (Photos 2 and 3):
This look is the bridge between dressed up and dressed down; it is more put together than the first look and can go from day to night. I imagine it as something you can wear on anything from a chic shopping trip to a club downtown to a night out with the girlfriends. I gave this look an edgier, more rocker feel with the bleached and studded denim vest, the cutout sleeves, sneaker heels, and a distressed leather bag. I transformed the tank dress in this look by layering a shirt with cutout sleeves over it so it looks like a different dress altogether (which is great for those days where you feel like you have nothing to wear).
-black Leyendecker cutout sleeve shirt
-Romie denim vest
-Alain Tondowski sneaker heels
-Alexander Wang Donna bag

Look Three (Photo 4):
While the tank dress is very casual by itself, pairing it with the right pieces and accessories can make it appear to be the LBD that one can wear to dressier occasions. In this case, a simple draped cardigan, layered jewelry, a shiny clutch, and my favorite heels have done the trick. The tank dress acts as more of a simple backdrop in this case to bring focus on the other, more elegant elements of the outfit, but it is a necessary element all the same.
-pale pink Splendid cardigan
-layered J. Crew necklaces
-Tapeet heels
-Alexander McQueen clutch
