Rainy days ahead back here in Manila. While the most of you are basking under the fabulous summer sun, we back here in the Philippines are facing rain, wind and flood as we usher in the rainy season yet again. I am no big fan of the rain due to the major damage it brings to everyone and the other day was prime example of such.
A typhoon hit really hard and everyone was actually quite clueless about its intensity as it was downplayed by the weather bureau thus causing zero preparation for citizens. It was quite scary really especially the howling and the nonstop slamming caused by the very strong winds. The sight after was quite devastating as trees and plants were all scattered in main roads and I’m betting it was made even worse by the fact that power went out for around a day and half and it was basically a BLACKOUT. It’s not as bad as it seems though as we back here are quite used to blackouts as we seem to have it almost every typhoon, so there was no looting or violence really. Just a stampede in the mall, which was more crowded and populated than ever since everyone flocked to recharge and enjoy generator assisted airconditioning. I was no exception.
I was running on zero battery for both my cellphone and laptop and I had to rush to Rockwell to “rent” an electrical socket to plug in and bring my laptop and iphone to life. This of course took a good 2 hours of waiting but I am not complaining since everyone was in the same bad situation as I was. Besides, I was pretty comfy to sit around and lounge in this outfit while waiting for my turn. More than anything this outfit was all about comfort since the dreary weather and zero lights makes dressing up quite a challenge. Since I had zero light source except for the flickering flashlight I had with me, I skipped on the color mixing and matching and stuck too good ole monotone…brown from head to toe.
The only food thing about the rainy season is that I can again resurrect wearing my thigh high boots which provided optimum coverage against the getting wet. I built my outfit from these brown boots and worked myself up, with sheer stockings, a brown longsleeved Zara minidress and a wool Ilaya coat which has been a personal fave. Since I was spending my entire day out, I wore my ever trusty YSL Muse purse which can store everything as it is bordering on overnight bag already. Pulled my hair back and I was good to go to face on the elements outside my house.
Hope everyone stayed dry in the storm back here in the Philippines. As for all of you guys still in “summer mode”…bathe in the warmth of the sun! I am so envious! xx
PS: i find it weird how I complain about the intense heat when it’s summer and about the major storms when the rainy season is here. I’m not fickle but I’m guessing this is climate change at its finest.
