Trying to think of one garment to remix three ways was pretty tough for me. I wanted a piece that was versatile, but also eye-catching and fun (not a usual basic). I chose my new favorite maxi skirt – this peacock skirt I picked up at a local Salvation Army.
Look 1:
For the first look I took the maxi skirt and made it into a mini. By taking pins from my sewing kit, I shortened the length of the skirt to give it a completely different feel. You can do this to any long dress or skirt to make it a more day-time appropriate look. To go with the daytime look, I paired my Charlotte Russe wedges that have the same colors as my skirt. A simple tank top, thrifted denim jacket, and my green teardrop necklace were the finishing touchings on this casual, but sweet look.
Look 2:
For this look I used my favorite trick of transforming a garment. I took the maxi skirt and hicked it all the way up (over my chest even), turning it into a dress. To give it more shape I added a belt, but decided to put the belt on the outside so that it gathered the jacket too. I love the soft, colorful peacock pattern of the skirt paired with the tougher army-inspired jacket. Simple black and brown heels and a few of my favorite pieces of colorful jewelry completed this everyday look.
Look 3:
I posted this look a while ago on my Chictopia account, and it was infact my inspiration for this contest. Just by wearing the peacock maxi skirt the way it was intented, I got a completely different look than the first two. I always initially style maxi skirts this way (going for a more hippie, earthy look), and so I chose a Hollister blouse with a ruffle down the center front, and my favorite Dolce Vita gladiators. I love the boho and simplistic feel of this look.
