I am so excited to be entering TeenVogue’s Wardrobe Remix contest, I adore the challenge of combining pieces into different outfits so this was a chance I didn’t want to pass up :)
I decided to take this opportunity to celebrate the versatility of a little black cotton dress, the opportunities are endless, its great how one simple piece can carry through in so many different styles and looks!
Outfit #1 Tips:
You can style a dress as a skirt by layering a top over it like I did here by knotting a button-up blouse at my waist for an instant high-waisted black skirt!
A cute polka-dot patterned top under a bright yellow cropped jacket gives a punchy and playful vibe to a classic black dress like this one.
I added high-heeled mary janes and a ruffled flower headband for a few girly accents and voi la!
Outfit #2 Tips:
A little black dress is a perfect backdrop for a menswear-inspired look because it preserves your femininity without a strong contrast.
To keep the look sleek I wore black tights and a black skinny belt so the blazer could really make its statement. Lastly, keeping with the menswear trend I paired vintage leather accented flats and a shrunken bowler hat. Menswear-inspired accessories are a great way to be creative under that realm because there are so many fun choices!
Outfit #3 Tips:
In contrast to the previous look I went sweet and girly. Style a little black dress as a jumper by layering a shirt underneath it. Layering tops under a dress can really expand the possibilities for the dress and is a fun variation on the classic style. I am in love with this ivory peter-pan collar blouse because it instantly adds an adorable vibe to any outfit I pair it with. This beret is one of my favorite accessories because it adds something special to an outfit. Girly accessories like a cherry red bow belt and patent leather red t-strap flats transform a muted look into something with a pop of darling style.
Other tips:
A comfortable LBD can multiply the outfits in your wardrobe, look for one that is simple but flattering, if you feel good in it you will have confidence and every woman wears that well!
A black dress can be worn as casual, work or formal attire, it all depends on what you match it with. A collared blouse and crisp jacket could be a stylish way to mix up your work wardrobe while a blazer and metal accessories work as a great going-out look. Have fun playing with different personas!
