I had a shoot for Metro Society last weekend and this was what I wore. Basically the feature was for people who are into collecting designer pieces and we were told to bring our designer stuff. I decided to wear this- a simple tulle and lace blazer combo which is so my style glammed up with extraordinary and severe items from my collection, which includes a tan Hermes Birkin, Michael Kors shoes and a vintage Chanel belt. I was quite wary for the said feature shoot given that I am NEVER one to wear signature head to toe. I don’t believe one needs to spend so much to be stylish as Edna Chase puts it, “Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess.” And I lived with this mantra in the shoot by pairing a simple dress and blazer with my purse being the focal point.
I subscribe to the Nina Garcia school of thought and fashion philosophy. In her book, The Little Black Book of Style" she points out that one needs not to be dressed in signature head to toe…mixing and matching is key. I believe in this since I realize that the true style icons and fashionistas for me are those who combine an expensive accessory from Chanel with a $ 2.99 purchase from Target or H&M and make it look high fashion and classy. In this day and age we live in, it doesn’t matter how much you are wearing but how you are wearing it. And suffice to say, CONFIDENCE to strut your stuff is all the matters. Such style philosophy was what I decided I wanted to embody for my fashion feature thus the combination of luxe designer items with more retail and RTW ones.
I look a tid bit different due to the HEAVY makeup and the SEVERELY curled hair. I find it quite weird that makeup artists tend to make my features stronger than they really are when they apply makeup on me and I end up looking not Asian at all. I love looking Asian, actually and I am sooooo into the whole Korean and Japanese style of applying makeup. I love bringing out my Chinese features rather than masking them but I guess for the camera and studio’s harsh lights, heavier was better so as not to look to washed out.
Lemme know what you guys think! This comes out on mid-July 2010 already! I hope I look great and still like my old normal self in the mag. Haha! xx
