While dresses and skirts have dominated the summers of yesteryear, I’m sensing a change. Shorts and pants are gaining headway, and I for one am loving it.
Classic khaki, denim and navy iterations are still around, but there’s a crazier crop of shorts just waiting to be tried on. I’m thinking punch-bright colors, wild prints (think crazy leggings prints, but on shorts), and maybe even a little bit of distressing or patchwork?
For those of you who are leg-conscious, don’t worry. I’m not talking about neon 80s hot pants or those awful too-short frayed cutoffs from your Hollister-obsessed high school days. This season’s shorts are cut looser, longer, and higher for a classic silhouette . Very flattering even for those without matchstick thighs— and more room for pigging out during those backyard barbecues, regardless.
And for die-hard skirt fanatics, don’t forget about the super-wide shorts that look just like skirts, which I have deemed shkirts* (not to be confused with skorts). Why not just wear a skirt, you ask? Well for one, it allows shorties like me to raise hemlines a bit more without fear (trust me, it’s a very big perk). For the rest of you, you can do all your warm-weather romping without fear of accidental flashing.
Throw ‘em on with a sheer slouchy tee, a light jacket, and some clogs and you’re all set. Long story short, shorts are wonderful, and I plant to wear mine all summer long. Who’s with me?
*Yes, I made this word up, but I’m kind of hoping it catches on, so spread it around!
