This article by blogger Ashe Mischief really got me thinking. She talks about credit card debt and how potentially many bloggers are experiencing this issue. Online we display our outfits and we can definitely feel the pressure to continually post new things and keep up with the latest hype. While it is my sincerest hope that Chictopians aren’t feeling pressured to dress in latest trends or purchasing things with credit cards that are out of their budgets, one way to combat the need for new is to show a remix.
I recently found this little black body-con lace dress at H&M and am finding it unbelievably versatile. Pulling from accessories that have been in my closet for ages I’ve built five completely different looks around this one dress. I think it is a good example that you should never be afraid to repeat your clothes—even online! Wear the pieces you love again and again, regardless of seasons and trends!
There are some tricks to remixing pieces so that you don’t get bored with them, because while there’s nothing wrong with wearing the same dress a dozen times, it can get dull.
Tips:
-try wearing the piece backwards
-try layering something underneath that changes the shape, like a crinoline
-pull head-to-toe accessories that channel a specific style or theme (boho, mod, etc)
-wear dresses as a shirt with a skirt over top of them, or as a skirt with a shirt on top
-try new and unusual color combinations
-play with safety pins to temporarily alter a hem or sleeve
-screw “seasonal” items and wear pieces out of season
