I wore this for a seemingly never-ending day at school, some running around downtown with my friend (and photographer) Andrew, and a coffee meetup at the campus Starbucks. I wore a navy peacoat over this (the coat pictures that we took didn’t turn out so well. I was standing outside and it was really windy!) and let the bow detail from the shirt stick out over my coat. People gave me some strange looks from afar while I was walking around campus, but that just made it more fun. People take things too seriously! It’s dreary and snowy here and having a little dress-up fun keeps me from letting the weather get me down.
I thrifted both of the vintage items on my way home form NYC over winter break. Bought them both on a whim (along with a couple other items that I have yet to wear!) and ended up really liking them both. The shirt is a size medium and is pretty voluminous, but it works well tucked into a high-waisted skirt. My mom helped me hem the skirt a little, but maybe not enough. hm.
I think I’m getting a lot better at thrifting. Now, I only buy things if I can picture them with other items in my closet and only if I’m sure that I’ll wear them. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose focus and get overwhelmed in secondhand stores. Everything screams “buy me!” and in the mish-mash of different clothing as a point of reference, it’s hard to tell just what’s too over the top or not-so-spectactular after all.
Thanks for all of the comments on my first post! :)
and thanks to Andrew at apblake.com for photographing me! :D
