I already watched a movie this month (New York, I Love You) but I had free tickets for a theatre near my Japanese school, so I decided to watch The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus since I wasn’t going to the gym between French and Japanese today. I was planning to catch it sometime anyway, because I had never watched a movie starring Health Ledger and I had the impression Lily Cole was going to be phenomenal. And I don’t think anyone can question the screen presence of Johnny Depp.
With this in mind, I dressed for today, ready to combat the devil and rescue Valentina and show the world about girl power. (What? It was 8 in the morning!) She managed well on her own though.
Okay I lied. I was planning to wear a grey tunic and studded blazer which I unearthed from the depths of my closet the other day but it was so bright I decided to I was going to dress as if I were going horse-riding. Not that I actually have gone horse-riding. Or anything equestrian. I still ended up looking out of place because of the black, but ah well.
Sorry about the more awkward than my usual awkward pose. I’m having race anxiety. I took some shots after class but my eyeliner already wore off. I like the light in those better though.
It’s difficult to give a review without giving the plot away, because there isn’t much of one. The acting was superb (the desperation Ledger displayed and the quirky charm of Depp, the slickness of Law) and I was quite taken with the Devil (ha!). Watch for what he says after he wins one of the wagers. Great visual spectacle and lovely accents but the storyline was a mess. Cole was cast well as a girl on the brink of womanhood. I did like the last bit (even though I predicted it was going to end with a whimper) and the flashback of the Doctor’s past which reminded me of Pratchett’s novels. The only thing that really put up a fight was Valentina’s will over her own fate and her strong fists (which was never explained).

wow, amazing coat and such a great mix!! very chic, girl! love the necklace and boots too!! :D
