i LOVE pocket squares! and i LOVE cuffed pants! i am making eeeee squealing noises right now. i tried convincing a friend to cuff his pants for a laid-back summer wedding and HE WOULDNT. im going to show this to him and make him regret his decision.

Granted, that would have to be a very laid-back wedding - I wouldn't recommend cuffs that high for any formal event.

I’ve been watching Season 1 of Mad Men and have to admit, it’s hard not to see it as a moving style guide. Other sites have offered detailed shopping lists to achieve the look, but unless you have expense accounts for wardrobe or a team of dedicated costumers you’re probably not buying your way to Mad Men nirvana.

But we’re not talking about particle physics here. Let’s go over the obvious.

Wear more suits – Most men I know have a strange aversion to suits, which is certainly some carry over from the 70’s and 80’s when suited men were the butt of every joke. Now wearing a suit, like growing a handlebar moustache, is practically an act of rebellion. So wear more of them. Women have been finding reasons to dress up for centuries. It’s time we joined them again.

Do more with the suits you wear – Two words – pocket squares. Extra bonus points if your pocket square matches your significant’s pillbox hat.

Go in the opposite direction – A wise man once said, when all else fails go dandy. Or something very similar. The contrast between the pre-hippies on Mad Men, with their poetry and Miles Davis, and the advertising execs personified by Donald Draper, provides an interesting spectrum of style. It shows that sometimes, even the suits need to get high…er…sway to the music.
