For my second interview installment, we’re hopping across the pond to get to know college student Jackie. She caught my eye by being able to rock multiple trends at once, without looking like she was trying too hard and not losing herself. Read the interview to hear her talk weather, fashion mistakes, and plaid.
Where are you from?
I’m a city girl – a complete Londoner!
Do you think your home/surroundings have affected your style?
Most definitely! In fact, if you look at most posts on my personal blog and on my Chictopia blog, they all start with a complaint about the weather, or how I can dress comfortably without being too cold. Especially in the UK , just this week we’ve had snow, sunshine AND rain.
When did you first become interested in fashion?
It was during my super awkward early teenage years. I was looking for something to delve into, explore and amongst other hobbies, fashion jumped out at me. Initially, I looked AWFUL, but I’m glad I went through that stage. I think it’s best to make “fashion mistakes” in order to settle on what your style really is.
Has your fashion sense changed over the years?
At first, I was such a tomboy; I hated dresses, skirts – anything feminine. But now, I absolutely adore it! Now I incorporate boyish looks with the feminine, such as Dr Martens under dresses and brogues with skirts.
What does style mean to you?
For me, style is about how you are able to express yourself using clothes as a medium. I think it should transcend trends, seasons and even decades!
Who are your style icons?
I have quite a few people who’s style I admire, from amongst my friends to bloggers on Chictopia, but I’ll pick people in the public eye! The Honorable Daphne Guinness is my most favorite. She is edgy, appreciates haute couture and has that air of “Old Money”-ness that I love (I study history by the way). I also like Miroslava Duma, her pick of designer pieces always looks super contemporary.
What do you feel best wearing?
Any outfit with my Dr Martens!
What do you like about Chictopia?
It’s so welcoming and is full of a wide variety of people with different styles. I recommend it to everyone who loves fashion!
Any fashion advice?
Don’t feel the need to jump on the hottest trend (unless you like it, of course) just because the magazines say you should. Take inspiration from anything and everything around you.
