Chictopia is a warm and inspiring community.
I lurked the style gallery for a couple weeks before I had the confidence to post. It was a nail-bitingly nervous experience. There are very stylish ladies and gentleman on this website.
My outfits have improved in the months I’ve been a member. Partially through self-reflection and partially through how inspiring my fellow members are! My self-image and self-confidence have also improved. I have mentioned before, but I grew up in a small, redneck town. I didn’t go a week my whole life without someone asking “why are you wearing that? Are you going to a party or something?” I’ve had people ask me why I’m not covering up my legs or why aren’t I ashamed of my pale complexion. Jeans and t-shirts were the city-wide status quo, and god damn, you better have a tan. The low point was definitely when I was walking down the street in pink shorts with ruffled pockets, black knee-high socks, and my pink kitten heels. Someone threw McDonald’s barbecue sauce at me as they drove by in their truck. Thankfully, it missed, but it still stung.
You Chictopians have helped me believe that I am not a frilly and glittery lunatic. I love dressing up like everyday is a tea party and now the burning glares from the college girls decked out in LuLuLemon are weightless. I’ve made an effort to look nice, and yes, someone has noticed. In fact, it’s been several someones and you are all wonderful.
Yes, this is a contest entry. More than that, it is a thank-you to the community. Thanks so much for all the support, friend requests, photo favourites, and fanning. You guys are the best.
