So, yes this is me and I’m in jeans and that isn’t very common, but the real story here is the hair! Milkmaid braids; my most successful attempt at them yet! Ever since Alexander Wang sent models sauntering down his runway with massive side braids, braids have been big in hair trends. If you don’t believe me now, wait until spring and I will be confirmed! With Chanel’s “little house on the prairie” chic style, milkmaid braids are a micro-trend for those with more sacchrine style. It’s vintage-seeming and really unique. I’ve been noticing this style on a number of other Chictopians as well.
As someone who has attempted this and watched them come undone through the day I highly recommend styling it: when wet, use hair spray, and strong safety pins (all three steps I failed to do the first few times out). I’ve read and viewed a lot of tutorials and my favorite is here.
If your hair is shorter, Swedish blogger Elinkan has a great tutorial here. So, you don’t have to wait over a year to grow your hair out to try this style. Although, you could probably also cheat and invest in some extensions!
This style is really sweet and appropriate for spring and summer or countries with warmer climes. Since it is so feminine, consider pairing this hair style with edgier clothes; like grunge-y plaid and studded or ripped jeans (this clearly isn’t a blanket rule!). Also, don’t be afraid to embellish them: a well-placed scarf or barrette might hide unevenness or even a sloppy ’do, or at the very least add some nice color to the look.
