Just got back from Reverse Garbage in Sydney – it’s a huge tin shed in Marrickville where you can pick up materials and discarded stuff for dirt cheap. A lot of industrial materials get donated here instead of going into landfill, but just about anything can be found there, it’s always a surprise. I managed to pick up some vintage records with their sleeves (great textures and typography for my artworks), a cool letter “E” that I’m going to repaint and hang on my studio wall. Plus some fabric scraps that I use in my artworks – there’s always a huge bin to pick through.
It’s a sweltering hot day, so denim shorts were obligatory. I knew I would be doing a bit of walking to RG so I needed a tee with short sleeves to protect my shoulders – they always get burnt! I nicked these Havaianas thongs (flip flops) from my mum, they’re a metallic silver/grey – think I’ll have to get a pair of my own. The necklace is one I made myself – it’s just ordinary fringe from the fabric store, which I dyed with tea, then magenta dye and finally dip dyed the top in black dye. I could only find cheap key rings to use as circular joins – the fringing in wrapped around at the end and sewn in place, then two pieces of black ribbon sewn around the rings and just tied up in a bow. I get lots of comments on it, so I’m going to do a DIY post on my blog and maybe sell some if anyone is interested?
