Chictopia has ripped open the threaded, fitted, hemmed doors of the fashion world to people all over the world. This community has allowed the struggling indie stylist from San Francisco to reach the student in Barcelona who’s bringing a new definition to the word “fashionista.” This community has allowed the trend-setting clubber from Manila to reach the closeted high school boy from the boonies of Tennessee, who’s just dying to get his hands on his very own Comme de Garcons shirt. Chictopia has brought people of all colors, sizes, and financial statuses together to show the world what they believe is chic. Where else in the world can Stockholm’s night scene directly influence what New York’s social elites wear the very next morning? Nowhere, but Chictopia. I love Chictopia because it breaks the dichotomous relationship between the streets of downtown L.A. and the runways of Milan. Rather, Chictopia unifies what real people want to wear and what the fashion world is telling us to wear, allowing style to evolve in a way that was unheard of ten years ago. I love seeing the pages and pages of new looks; I can’t help but smile when seeing the latest jacket juxtaposed right next to a picture of the revival of shoulder pads. That’s what makes Chictopia great; it absorbs the complex world of fashion to one place, inviting anyone, even this college student from Houston, to explore its timeless beauty.
