A new year, but the same old me. I wound up spoiling myself a little for no good reason and picked up a couple of things. This Devoa scarf is from the new spring 2010 collection and already I’m in love. It screamed out to me from the racks and after giving it a good wrap around my neck, I was sold. It’s made from a wool/linen blend, so I’m pretty sure I’ll get to wear it year-round in San Francisco — light enough to be a stole or wrap and thick enough to bunch into a big ol’ scarf or hood.
I had a free day so I wound up walking around the Fillmore since I hadn’t been in a while. If anybody’s planning on visiting San Francisco, you absolutely have to stop by since it’s one of the most lively, yet quiet neighborhoods in the city. For a trip that’s sure to keep you happy (and your checkbook light):

The folks here carry one of the best periodical selections in the entire city, including hard to find rags like AnOther (and AnOther Man), all the foreign Vogues from Japan to Italy to Britain, Metal, i-D, VMan and V Magazine, and much, much more. And if you aren’t that into fashion, there’s plenty of interior design, world news, and art magazines to peruse, too.
Pick up a trinket at Marc by Marc Jacobs
Their FIllmore location is pretty cramped, but it usually has a lot of cheap little things. I spotted $3 rings inscribed with Latin phrases, lipstick pens, and expandable watch cuff bracelets at a glance.
Chow down at Crepevine
This SF chain is a brunch institution. You name it and they probably serve it: crepes, omelettes, sandwiches, and salads. And don’t forget to grab one of their fresh-squeezed juices to wash it all down.
Drool over the unattainable at Cielo
Heads and shoulders above its competition, Cielo has been the go-to place for the best womenswear the world has to offer. Whether you want the draped romanticism of Rick Owens, the disciplined deconstruction of Yohji Yamamoto, the studied whimsy of Tsumori Chisato, or the elegant crafting of Anne Valerie Hash, Cielo has what you want. And what’s this? A huge sale on Dries van Noten shoes? Why haven’t you guys already snatched all these up already? What’s wrong with you people?
Slip on a new pair at Gimme Shoes
Although I prefer the Hayes Valley location, the Fillmore is really a fantastic location for Gimme Shoes’ smart and savvy collection of footwear. With offerings for both men and women ranging from Chie Mihara to Fiorentini + Baker to SF’s own Martha Davis, it’s hard to leave Gimme Shoes without trying on something, much less walking out without a brand new pair.
