Hello Chictopians, shall we talk chic toppers?
To me, the crowning glory of a perfect outfit is some sort of accessory on your head. Fedoras, tiaras, giant headbands; they all sort of rock my world. Since most of your body heat escape through your head, a hat in winter can mean the difference between freezing and being comfortable. Southern Chictopians have no fear, there’s still chic toppers for you as well; net items, straw, and others add style without locking in the heat if you’re currently experiencing summer.
The classics: berets, fedoras, bowlers, wide brim straw hats
The quirks: tiaras, vintage fascinators, feathers, scarves, straw boaters
The now: knit caps, headbands, bows, studded items, fur
*wear your hair down; this will soften the impact of any headpiece
*pay attention to color; this can be a nice pop of color to a neutral outfit, but be careful to not choose a color that will wash you out
*know your face shape; oval faces can wear any style, round faces should avoid knit caps, whereas square shaped faces should look for soft styles
*match your hat to the rest of your outfit; don’t take this too literally, but a headband will suit a preppy Blair Waldorf look, but might look out of place in a punk or boyish outfit-contrast is good, but reinforce it with other elements
*try it! my number one rule for everything is to experiment; you’ll never know what suits you and what doesn’t until you give it a chance
