After watching the Toy Story 1 & 2 3-D Double feature a few weeks ago, we were set on being Woody and Jessie for Halloween. The manufactured costumes were $80 each, so we decided to make most of it ourselves. DIY baby!
How we made the costumes: We bought a yard of cow print fabric, then I sowed it onto an old pair of jeans and helped my boyfriend make his vest. We bought Woody’s shirt at American Vintage in Sherman Oaks, and my boyfriend used a red fabric marker to draw the pattern. He’s wearing his own jeans. My white shirt was from the boys section at Target. I used yellow t-shirt fabric to make the yoke and the cuffs. I sowed the yoke on to the shirt. The cuffs were sown onto paper to make them stiff, and I wore them them as bracelets over my sleeves. I also used a red fabric marker to draw the loop pattern on the yoke and cuffs.
Accessories: Our belts were thrifted from our parents’ closets. We bought the toy guns and holsters from a local party store. My boyfriend’s boots are vintage, and his hat is just a straw cowboy hat with yarn trim, which he spray-painted brown. My hat is from the Disney Store online, and my yarn wig is from the local Halloween Store. My boots are from Steve Madden. And I’m wearing fake eyelashes in attempt to get that DOLL look.
It was hard work, but it paid off! I had so much fun this year!
