Karla’s take on Karen Walker
I have always been an avid follower of Karen Walker, mostly because of her incredible eyewear that constantly causes me to mess up my whole monthly budget plan. So when I was invited to cover for her Spring/Summer 2010 collection, I was beyond excited.
The pieces this season reminded me of a collection she did in the past- Karen stuck with her strong and somewhat simple silhouettes, but this time adding quirky touches of polka dots, painterly prints, and classical stripes to most of her looks.
It seemed as if though Walker drew inspiration from all sorts of themes, playing around with nautical/preppy pieces such as cuffed and cropped trousers, striped socks with moccasin boat shoes, pleated crisp button-up blouses, oversized bucket hats, and peter pan collared jumpsuits, but also featuring pieces that were very fun and flirty such as the voluminously puffed skirts, romantic dresses with ruffles varying in size, plastic hooded cape, colorful mosaic print tops worn with bird-printed blazers and striped mini skirts, and gold button zippered raincoats.
I loved how even though most of the collection presented a rather boyish element, she also provided a touch of glam chic… and again, this was another collection that presents something for every girl!
