Despite the drizzly forecast yesterday, herds of well-heeled fashionistas flocked into a Chelsea warehouse for the Wayne 2010 presentation. I warded off the wind in my vintage trench, and threw on a white, thrifted dress straight out of the 80s for fun. The showroom, complete with massive windows facing a somewhat gloomy Hudson River, echoed with blaring MGMT mashups as sleek models paraded down a makeshift runway. True to the Vassar graduate’s futuristic and androgynous designs, the SS10 collection featured sharp and structural silhouettes. The designer was inspired by minimalist sculptures, particularly those of Richard Serra, whose influence was beautifully translated into a sexy and streamlined collection. In keeping with the minimalist theme, colors were neutral—black, tans, and whites—except for the sporadic peak-a-boo of electric yellow. There were white, wrap up mesh leggings reminiscent of Rodarte, chic zip-up vests, and crazy cutout dresses fit for the future. However, the collection was not entirely space age—spandex shorts and the old favorite fanny pack did make cameos, to our delight!
