Balenciaga, Spring 2005.
Probably my absolute favorite collection ever. I have a soft spot (or get a hard on) for: nautical/military tailoring; lingerie detailing; layering; gold trimmings; navy/black/beige/white lack-of-color palettes; and intimidating footwear. This collection included all of the above.
I particularly love the slouchy silk, vaguely pajama-like sailor trousers. And equally adore the fluid, unlined silk trenches and jackets. I especially love that all the silk in this collection is matte – since shiny silk satins can take things too far into the flashy arena – and these textures in this palette are so perfectly understated and still superluxe. The metallic trim adds detail for contrast and keeps everything from looking too minimal. And I must add that I almost always fall for navy/white prints (see posts below for proof).
Every item and outfit is covetable which, more than anything, is why this specific Ghesquiere collection is my fave. There are many collections preceding and following the Spring ‘05 showing that inspired lust, but this one is the one. I find myself continually returning to this collection when needing inspiration or just wanting items to pointlessly covet. That’s when you know its love.
Love,
Viv
