There comes a point in every teenagers life where one will have to go hang out with a bunch of boys… without any female friends. i.e. You, alone, with a bunch of guys. To some it may seem fun, and to others it could be possibly horrifying. But you have to go. Why? Your mom is making you, you may have your eye on one of the guys and so therefore have forced yourself to go, your friend may have enlisted you to be a secret agent and find out all you can about her supposed soul mate. Anyways, no matter the reason, you have got to go. But what do you wear? And what if your uncomfortable?
Boys, Oh Boy
One thing Ive learned is guys dont really care about what youre wearing. They dont. Its a known fact. However, I find that they do notice what youre wearing. Its not as if they dont look at all. Guys may be very different than girls, but they DO have eyes.
What Not To Wear
Lets start with what not to wear. Its pretty simple. The last thing you want to be when in a group of boys is to be bland. Do you want to be plain and ordinary or outstanding and exotic? Would you rather be a petunia or a rose? A finch or a cockatiel? You get my point.
Simple, bland, boring, NO items: plain jean shorts, cropped sweaters, graphic tees, flip flops, plastic jewelery, graphic sweatshirts, tennis shoes, bootcut or flare jeans, sweats.
Girls, I know maybe your friends wear all this, maybe you see it on the people at the mall, or on Disney Channel or something, it doesnt mean YOU should wear it.
What TO Wear!
Alright, you know what you shouldnt wear so now what DO you wear? Well, guess what? Its simple. Im ALL for dressing feminine. What happened to when women wore dresses and skirts? That was the life! And while sometimes people view the above two items of clothing as dainty, weak, and anti-feminism its soo not true. If you knew me as a person you can easily tell I that dont want to be docile and completely obedient all of the time. I have a voice and a love for skirts.
Yes yes yes items: loose tanks and long skirts, woven sandals, gladiators, high heels, rompers, maxi dresses
Story Time
Last Friday I met up with a bunch of old time guy friends. They were actually skater dudes. I wore this skirt. Guess what they talked about for most of the time? My skirt. Yup. And not in a bad way. So ladies, heres my advice to you: Be original. If youre afraid of wearing a vintage dress or chunky heels… DONT be. Because odds are, if its something thats not seen often, theyll notice… and guess what? Probably end up liking it. Because it shows youre willing to be who you are. To display your true true colors.
Chant It
My mother has always told me to create a saying that makes me feel better about myself and then to repeat it over, and over again, because after a while, youre brain does that for you automatically and you begin to actually feel a difference and believe yourself.
So here is my message to you:
“Youre beautiful and gorgeous.”
“Youre beautiful and gorgeous.”
“Youre beautiful and gorgeous.”
“Youre beautiful and gorgeous.”
They say that when girls walk out the door they look in the mirror and pick out one thing they hate about themselves, like “I hate my nose” but guys go out the door saying to themselves “Ive got rockin calves!” It all depends on what you say to yourself. So next time you walk out the door, ignore the negative stuff, and look in the mirror and choose your most favorite part about you, your eyes, dimples, legs, whatever, and tell yourself how fabulous that part of you is.
Comfort Level
Okay, before I leave you, the most important (and cliche) thing is to wear something that you feel comfortable in, or something that is at least tolerable to wear. However, I dont think you should be uncomfortable, because 1) Its no fun (very stressing, you know?) and 2) there is no reason to be! Any chictopian can wear anything, anytime.
Still uncomfortable? Here is a quick guide to help you. If you dont wanna show your legs, put on a maxi dress, or a long skirt like the one Im wearing. If you dont wanna wear a romper put on a jumpsuit. Loose tank top too loose? Try a loose tee instead.
So, take a cue from Karla
or romp around like Lydia
or swing a skirt like Annabel,
odds are youll look fantastic any way.
Until we meet again,
