uh oh! it looks like i owe people a lot of cookies! hahaha! i’ll see what i can do…
well this here is one of my new dresses. it’s just so simple and easy. the fabric is very soft and lightweight, and it has a cute full skirt. when i bought this, it was actually quite long, somewhere in the territory below the knees, but definitely reaching low enough that it was bordering on matronly. so i chopped it off and hemmed it by hand! usually i just use the sewing machine, but i decided to do this the old-fashioned way, since it’s such an old dress! i’m guessing it’s from the 50’s.
i actually purchased several dresses from the 40’s and 50’s recently, and i’m still on a kick! it’s funny, i wear a lot of vintage, but i was just thinking about how i can’t stick to one decade. i love the depression era and ww2 era dresses, but i’m still a sucker for a good 60’s mod dress, or a 70’s pinafore, and even a fun 80’s party dress now and then.
and that got me thinking about the different silhouettes that were most popular during those decades. for example, the 90’s are definitely marked by the waif look, ever-popularized by kate moss for calvin klein. what are the other silhouettes of decades gone by?
oh and you can get your cookie here.
