Like every young girl, I fantasied about the bustling romantic city of New York. Watching movies of people falling in love, embracing on top of The Empire State Building and circling The Statue of Liberty - probably had a lot to do with it :) Not only was this enchanting place a childhood fantasy of mine, as I grew older and fashion became a big part of my life my view of New York changed, from not only being a place of mere romance but also a fashion mecca.
New York is one of the most diverse fashion capitals of the world and influences on a global scale. Although I'm proudly South African and live in Cape Town, which is a great distance from The Big Apple, my heart has always longed to be a New Yorker, even if it was just for a day. The cultural ideologies of NY fashion have shaped my personal views of fashion and the world. Making me feel spiritually connected to this great city.
Now that fashion influences me in so many ways, all I want is to immerse myself in the contemporary culture of New York style. Announcing that you're "going to New York" is one thing, getting told you have $700 to spend on travel and accommodations, a pair of Ariat boots to wear during Fashion Week and to style in two blog posts, along with an exclusive pass to a runway show at NYFW 2014 is an absolute dream come true.
Thank you Chictopia and Ariat for this awesome opportunity to make my pilgrimage to Fashion's Holy ground.
