Interns WADDUP. So basically I lived my dream the past 10 weeks in NEW YORK CITY and its inspired me tell you break the walls between your passion, your internship, and the world.
Treat Every Experience as an Opportunity… You never know you may be cleaning up ROYAL TRASH
No but seriously… As an intern it doesn’t matter what your role is. In fact you don’t have a role. You can choose to sit and stare at a white computer or you can invent your opportunity. I mean hey… when I got to hang with Sophia Bush… I was like OMG can I do everything in the world for you b/c you’re a total ROCKSTAR. News flash- she was the oppo’ of a diva and I wound up getting to chat, celebrate, and celebrate my birthday.
- First off, the word NO isn’t in an intern’s vocabulary. It’s a thing I like to call YES AND. You don’t do. You create. You do your job and make it better.
MAKE IT EASY FOR OTHERS TO SAY YES.
- If you have a dream… go get it. No one is going to hand it to you on a silver platter like the pancakes your mom makes you every Sunday. If you want to meet the Editor in Chief of your favorite magazine. Email her. Email her assistants. MAKE IT HAPPEN. But oh yah… when you make it happen… the most important thing is that you make it easy for the individual you are asking for help from to HELP YOU.
TIME OFF IS YOUR TIME ON.
- Work isn’t 9-5. Ok maybe yes WORK IS but not passion. When you’re doing what you love you are constantly thinking, working, creating, and connecting. There’s no FOMO because I PROMISE YOU… you will be connected to those that are like minded. It makes life a lot easier, and quite frankly, eliminates all the superficial nonsense. In case you were wondering I think I dream about fashion, text my interns at random hours, and if I have an idea I whip out my computer and GO GO GO. Yes… I did send an email on the street in Soho…
