Wanna know my thought process when I’m coming up with an outfit? Sure you do. Last night, it went something like this:
“Hmm. What should I wear? I can’t wear my new shoes (which I mentioned earlier and will post soon, I promise) because it’s supposed to rain and they’re made of leather. Tomorrow is the Day of Silence…hmm…silent but deadly…spies and assassins, ooh, international espionage and intrigue! Time to procrastinate studying for bio (BAD idea btw) and research 60’s spy movies on Wikipedia!”
So since I was seriously lacking in resources (I wanted to wear my leather jacket, but I lent it to a friend) this sort of became a hot mess of Mata Hari wannabe (note the turban), 60’s spies (the vaguely Audrey-ish LBD, not that she was a spy or anything), and a whole bunch of other things. Some thoughts:
-In just about every spy movie ever made, there’s a scene where the main characters have to attend a cocktail party in fancy clothing in order to kidnap the president/protect the Crown Jewels/obtain vital information from the Soviets/etc. So a little black dress and pearls are clearly typical secret-agent fare. However, if you’re going to be running around saving the world from nefarious Communist plots or whatnot, a pair of sensible black boots is also a good idea.
-Note the ring – not only is it pretty, but also capable of containing a decoder mechanism, secret poison compartment, and tranquilizer injectors if you need to sedate the ambassador in a pinch. Yes, I’m taking this way too far.
-You should go to the Wikipedia entry about Mata Hari and read the paragraph about her execution by firing squad (don’t worry, it’s not gory or anything.) Seriously, this woman was dramatic and fabulous until the very end.
-Speaking of firing squads, chictopian xs_ has some stellar secret-agent-esque photo shoots. Meanwhile, I’m posing against my wall and calling it creative.
-I wanted to wear an outfit based on this clever parody of 60’s (I think) spy movies, from the sketch comedy series A Bit of Fry and Laurie. Too bad my leather jacket was unavailable, and the costumes aren’t even that interesting, but still, the video is definitely worth a watch.
-I took off my sticker for the photos, but here’s a picture (last one.) Not talking for a whole day is pretty damn hard.
-Next up: fashion inspired by Austin Powers?
