I know I’m not old by any stretch of the word, but man—I’ve been having really intense nostalgic moments lately. Maybe it’s because I’ve filled up all my spare time with Buffy episodes, or maybe it’s because I’ve been thumbing through digital copies of Sassy at work (it’s for research, Helen!), but lately I’ve been seeing visions of crop tops and pastel pants dancing around my head.
Some people have told me that they think ‘90s style is really hard to define, which—IMO—is completely bogus. Imagine early Friends or the Babysitter’s Club Movie and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what ‘90s fashion was. But, in a nutshell, the ‘90s aesthetic was utilitarian, minimal and really wholesome.
It’s been making a quiet resurgence as of late, but that doesn’t mean that all the pieces are up for grabs. Here’s what’s ok to try again, what’s definitely not ok, and what’s not ok but still holds a soft spot in our hearts.
