The title basically sums up the past 2 days. It has been HOT. I wore this yesterday, and ended up going outside for a fire drill…in the scorching heat…TWICE…within 20 minutes. The first one was because a battery died in a smoke detector, and the second time somebody pulled the alarm. (Seriously? Who does that? Wasn’t one enough?) I thought this shiny metallic fabric would be ideal for reflecting heat and sunlight (like those shiny ponchos they sell at hiking supply stores (anyone?)), but I was sadly wrong.
Then today, during the first block, the fire alarms went off again. After we got back inside, the headmaster came on the announcements and said that it was a planned drill. Really. Because after having 2 fire drills in one day, why not go ahead with the scheduled one, just for the heck of it?
I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m complaining too much…a little sunshine and fresh air (and not having to be in class) is never a bad thing. But fire drills at our school are kind of ridiculous. The headmaster always announces the reason for the drill afterwards, and it’s always something like “The cooking class burned their quesadillas” or “Someone was making microwave popcorn in the teachers’ lounge” or “A spider crawled across the smoke detector.” Seriously, this is getting a little out of hand.
