Introduce yourself to Chictopia
My name is Hanh. I’m from Chicago, IL. I am 20 years old, turning 21 on April 30th. I am currently attending a university and majoring in Biology. I’m planning to get into the medical field, most likely Optometry school after I get my bachelor’s degree.
When did you find your interests in beauty?
Ever since I was a little girl, my mom loved to dress me up and put makeup on me. So I’d say I’ve always thought it was some kind of fun game ever since I was a child. However, growing up I was a tom boy. I hated wearing dresses and skirts. I refused to wear them until I was in 8th grade.
What are your hobbies?
I love to stretch and draw using oil pastels. It’s really strange but I think it is the only thing that I innately know. I had never taken an art class in high school or college but some how I manage to get good at it.
Once in a while, I would also get inspired to write fictional stories. It would always spontaneous when I get this urge. Sometimes it would be 3 am in the morning and I would just wake up, pull my laptop out and just start typing insanely. Currently, I am working on a story that I am planning to turn into a novel.
I also love music. Everything about it fascinates me. I even have a guitar lying around in my room that I will one day start learning how to play it. I just don’t know when that day will come yet because I have so many other things to do.
I also love to make You tube videos. When I began making them was around a year ago in April. For some reason the whole process of making a video calms me down and eliminates all of the stress that I am feeling.
Tell us about the look. What occasion is this best suited for?
The look is very bohemian inspired. My favorite era in fashion is probably in the 60’s with Mod fashion. During that time Mod fashion was highly influenced by the bohemian look. I think during the spring and summer seasons waves and loose braids are the best suited. The looked is supposed to be very laid back yet pretty and unique at the same time. I think it is suited for everyday, especially those sunny days where you can just wear a flowy sundress and leave the house. This would be everyday for me in the summer.
Any tips on keeping healthy hair?
I usually always condition the ends and midsections of my hair when I shower. Most of the time I would condition then shampoo to achieve a weightless feel. In the morning when I wake up whether it is to go to school or work I would always apply a heat protectant to my hair. Heat protectant is very important even if you don’t apply heat or style your hair. In your environment there are many things that would damage your hair so it is better to be safe then sorry. And make sure you drink lots and lots of water. This is the hardest thing for me to do because I hate the plain taste of water. So I would usually squeeze a piece of lime in my water for some flavor. And be sure to take your vitamins. My favorite kind is the Flintstones gummy vitamins. They are delicious like candy also very nutritional.
Sometimes, we just avoid spend too much time on hair because we are afraid to messing it up over time—fixing your hair over and over can be pain in the ass! What advices to you have for that?
Just know to have a balance. Know how to protect your hair. Don’t go curling or straighten your hair everyday. Also keep your natural color; you were born with it so it is made custom for you. Why bother chemically treating it and having a color that someone else would. Whatever you do don’t perm your hair. I think that would be the worst mistake you can make. My grandma would perm her hair a lot and now that she’s older she is dramatically loosing hair. And make sure you get a trim every three month to prevent any further damage from split ends to your hair follicles.
Who has the best hair style currently and why? (among celebrities, etc)
I think Adrianna Lima has the best hairstyle. Her hair is just so long and luscious. I love voluminous hair. Since my hair is so thin I put so much effort in to making it thick, but her hair is just seem effortlessly beautiful and healthy.
