I try to actively add elements of punk, rockabilly or (well done) goth into my wardrobe on a daily basis. Buying strong basics that will last a long time are essential in achieving this. My steel toed Doc Marten’s are my best friends.
I believe that wearing clothing that suits ones body type is probably the number one commandment with regards to dressing stylishly. Trends and fads are all well and fine, and generally it’s easy to incorporate elements of what’s popular into daily wear without looking like an idiot.
I value thrift highly as well. I find that I get better bang for my buck, and play my environmentalisy role when I shop second hand. Valu Village is my home away from home. You can always find something eye catching there.
