Style philosophy: Clothing, to me, is like wearable art. Each piece has to be unique in its own form. If I do wear something off the rack, I mix it with vintage to make it look more one-of-a-kind. I tailor A LOT. Tailoring makes a huge difference in the way your clothes fit. My entire wardrobe is based on my “Prime and Paint” theory: start with great fitting basics (PRIME), and add pizazz with funky one-of-a-kind pieces and accessories (PAINT).
Accessory alert: I adore each and every vintage piece of jewelry I see. It’s a bad habit at times, but most things are small, so I can hide them away…I am a regular at all of the thrift stores in town, but I also venture off to flea markets and tag sales, which are notorious for having old jewelry. I also love my mom’s line of wire wrapped rings. She uses a lot of vintage beads, and buttons, plus lots of bling-so its right up my alley! I also create a bunch of random pieces DIY. A necklace made out of potatoes? Yes, I have made it.
Fashion jaunts: I’ve been in love with TJ Maxx for years, and years, and years. Why? Because you never know what you will find. One day they’ll be stocked with Michael Kors, and the next day they’ll have Betsy Johnson. And let’s be frank, most of the time, I do not get to shop anywhere other than Sioux Falls, so I’m super happy to find a huge array of fashionable high end brands right in one place. I also frequent JC Penny, Younkers, New York and Co., Target, and believe it or not-Wall-mart. I love small boutiques with flair-I’ll visit any and all. There are fashion treasures everywhere! For vintage, I hit up St. Vincent’s, The Mission, and the Salvation Army. On-line stores I adore: asos.com, etsy.com, modcloth.com, topshop.com, forever21.com, gojane.com, and lulus.com.
