I went to a discount fabric supply store and saw some lycra fabric on sale for .99/yard. I chose 2 yards of a pale pink fabric with a cherry blossom motif—pretty, but not something I would have chosen if it wasn’t on sale (here’s a pic of it)
I’m hitting a wall as to what I can do with it—I never wear stretchy fabric like this, let alone sew with it. If I can’t make anything wearable (i.e. not a calf-length a-line skirt) out of it, I’ll just play around with it for fun and practice.
any ideas or inspiration? I was thinking of a scrunched bodycon skirt like here or here but idk if it would just end up looking tacky.
posted about 1 year agoi definitely think a bodycon skirt would be cool. Maybe even a circle skirt since floral skirts are so in right now. Both are very easy to make. You can also make a tube top or halter top with it or maybe even a bandeau top. If you don’t want to do clothes, you can make it into a circle scarf or one of those headband/turband things. :)
posted about 1 year agoSince it’s lycra, DON’T MAKE CLOTHES OUT OF IT. No one looks good in lycra. You can tack or staple the fabric across a wooden frame and have a nice backdrop or art piece or pin board for you wall instead. Shiny, stretcy fabric is not flattering, and a fabric with such a pattern is more suited for decoration than for wearing.
