Built By Wendy sells some pretty basic/cute patterns that I’d recommend to a beginner.
posted over 3 years agoYUp! I’ve been sewing since I was about 12 so… 25 years.. OMG that’s insane. I wish I hadn’t thought of that math. 8(
ANYWAY, Just go for it!! Buy yourself an ‘EASY’ level pattern and you should REALLY avoid sewing with jersey knits for now. You need some moderate skill to handle the stretch and sew factor. And starting with hemming and alterations is a really great idea too!
Dont’ be shy to message me if you need any tips or have questions!!
I have an etsy shop too if you want to check out my ‘skills’ hee hee

I do alot of sewing with a machine!
I haven’t done anything from scratch yet,
but so far I’ve altered some shirts, made
a dress from a baggy old t-shirt and altered
my fake uggs so that they weren’t so plain.
I somewhat do. I more do altercations to clothes I already have. The current projects I’m going to be working on is:
1.) Making more hair bows
2.) Turning this oversize Sex Pistols into a halter top
3.) Turning this yellow, see through (>> must also add slip to it) dress into either a tube top or bubble dress
i’m starting to sew and it’s so easy!!, but i need a sewing machine to make the process faster :(
posted about 3 years agoI really really want to make my own prom dress for this year (in a month!) but all I’ve done so far as sewing is turning flare jeans to skinny and fixing tears.
:/
A good way to start sewing is just by learning how to sew straight lines and curves on a sewing machine. you could also buy an “easy” level pattern from a fabric store (something without zippers or fancy details is best) and make a garment out of a plain cotton fabric for starters. hope that helps!
posted about 3 years agoI alter clothes and design clothes, but all by hand.
Goodness, I could never use a sewing machine.
O.x
Nobody taught me how to sew,I started by sewing letters on clothes. Now I alter a lot my clothes like jeans and tees.My next project is to make a dress, alter a stripe top and a black dress.I had also created a grey collar from an old hoodie lol .Maybe you will see it on my chictopia page.
posted about 3 years agoI’m just starting out on making my own clothing. I usually get my fabric and patterns (the patterns are free, hanging on the rack for anyone to take) from JoAnn Fabrics, but just search for tutorials and patterns on the net. my next project will be a dress…but the rest is top secret ‘til it’s done. :D
posted about 3 years agoif i could i would. but my mom will sometimes make me things & my roomie loves to sew stuff!

posted almost 3 years agoI’m about to inherit an old 50’s Singer machine from my mom, and I’m so excited! We learned sewing in high school, but I can’t remember a thing, so I’ll be starting from scratch pretty much… can’t even remember how to thread the bobbin! But I’ve found so many videos on youtube, tips on other websites, etc… I can’t wait to get started altering stuff and making my own creations!
Sorry, I’m super excited! o_O

posted over 2 years agoi would love to sew, but i don’t have the time to learn it yet. i’m really interested in sewing really plain-shaped dresses when i finally graduate though; it seems to be my new found interest! meanwhile, i enjoy beading, appliques and embroidery :)
posted over 2 years agoi alter my clothes only by hand though but i want to buy a sewing machine soon so it would be easier and faster because i enjoy transforming old boring tshirts or blouses into something new and more interesting
