I just bought my DSLR and now realize that it is harder than it looks to take pictures. I’m definitely going to need to spend some one-on-one time with it. My question for you guys is-what sources did you use to perfect your skills behind the lens? Are their particular books, online tutorials, or blogs that you particularly recommend?

I recommend taking classes or having a photographer friend help you learn. Understanding aperture and shutter speed is kind of tough (not to mention confusing!). I had a friend teach me the basics of photography.
If you want to learn on your own, I recommend this book by Scott Kelby it guides you through the fundamentals of the art.
