Why do I keep getting red-eye in my night time photos? It looks so creepy so I have to go and edit them out. What causes this and how do I prevent it from happening all the time?

I believe this happens when there is a flash used and the light reflecting from the retina is causing this to happen. I think the biggest thing is to avoid using the flash. But if you absolutely have to, setting it far apart from your lens would help.
