A photography class, how exciting! SLR cameras can be pretty expensive, I recommend you borrow or rent one first before you decide to buy one for yourself. Plus if you’re buying a film camera just for the class, there’s a chance you might not use it again if you decide to move to digital cameras. However, if you are determined to have your own camera for the class I would recommend looking on craigslist . Buy it from someone local so you can meet in person and check the camera’s condition for yourself.
Good luck with your photography class. I hope you share some photos once you’ve started taking pictures. :)posted almost 2 years ago

Is it digital photography or manual? If you really want some serious lessons, I suggest you get a manual camera (which costs like 5 times less than a digital SLR), and you’ll learn how to use a camera without depending on auto settings. Learning this way would help you become a better photographer, and you wouldn’t look so stupid when you start working with professionals.
But if you’re just doing this for a requirement and you have the money, go for a Nikon D90 or Canon 500D, for starters! :) With a 50mm lens and a kit (18 – 135mm I think)posted almost 2 years ago
