When I’m studying I need to be all pumped up so I listen to edm. They get me excited and for some reason I can focus more.

Instrumental music only, or vocal music in a language I don’t understand. The words distract me.

Also, as a musician myself, if the music is too intriguing I begin analyzing it instead of working on whatever project needs my attention.

Classical: Bach cello suites, familiar Mozart concerti or symphonies, chants of Hildegard von Bingen (sung by Anonymous 4), Brahms symphonies (his phrases and development sections are relatively long so I easily lose track), John Field sonatas and nocturns, Gabrieli (any, but best on period instruments), John Adams

Electronica/New Age: Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, George Winston, Shadowfax

Jazz: Stanley Jordan, David Benoit, Weather Report

Hope this helps!
