I’m seeing teeny boppers wearing cat eye eyeliners and lipstick. I find this kind of funny because my friends and I didn’t start wearing makeup until college. Maybe I’m not used to this yet. What age do you think girls should start thinking about wearing makeup?

I think that it’s really up to the person, since makeup really should be worn to make yourself feel prettier/better about yourself. I think that maybe 15-16 is a good place to start?

I know that some North American teens (boys and girls) from public schools start experimenting with makeup around 13-14, the average age for early puberty. It has been like this for decades, especially during my parents’ generations.

I think makeup shouldn’t be a “required thing” for people to wear in general, unless it’s for theatre, filming, or cosmetics retail. Personally for me, I love makeup— because I enjoy playing with colors and expressing myself. If another person doesn’t want to wear makeup, she shouldn’t be forced to wear them.

I think it boils down to an individual; skin and health should also be considered too. I think it’s fine if a 14-year-old goth girl or boy wants to experiment with makeup, but I think s/he just needs to check with the dermatologist first. Like, limiting foundations for special occasion or just sticking with eye-wear.

Anywhere under middle school is a bit too young.
