So I just joined a gym this week! I really feel like I need to get off my lazy butt and go work out and get back in shape so I made myself join and worked out on Thursday. I took a PE class last quarter so I got used to the layout of the school gym and the machines they had there, but every gym is different.
My favorite machines are the treadmill (I can run so much longer on it than just running around my neighborhood) and also the elliptical machine. I also make myself do some of the workouts for the arms, like the chest press because I’m a weakling and need that. :)
So what are your favorite machines and which one are best for what? Which machines do you use every time at the gym? Do you have a certain routine or do you switch it up and do different things sometimes? Any advise on machine choices is helpful :)

Treadmill, bike machine. The elliptical is boring to me xD
I just run and then bike when I get tired.

I like the elliptical because you get the benefits of running without the joint stress. I like jogging, but outside only, not on the treadmill. I have several routines but I vary them throughout the week because doing the same thing all the time isn’t challenging (not to mention it gets boring).

yeah I was reading about the elliptical and it was talking about how it’s a very low impact machine and a lot better for the joints. I think I’m going to start with the elliptical first when I go in tomorrow.

I’ve also heard the elliptical is better than running for the low impact, as you said. Although I’d recommend using the step machine, you’ll notice results!

I do about 40 minutes of weights and only 20 of cardio. I do the assisted weights / th machines. I do about 4 for the arms including assisted pull-ups and dips, my favorite. chest presses. I also use the ab machines.

yeah I hear the row machine is great for a total body workout cause it gets your arms, core and legs.
I’m going again today and I’m definitely doing the step machine.

The step machine and an Arc Trainer if they have it; it’s a step machine and an elliptical all in one! It works your booty like no other.

You should try running outside instead of the treadmill. I heard that running ont he treadmill is not as effective because the machine is doing a lot of the work for you, which is probably why you can run on the treadmill longer than in your neighborhood :)
the bicycles really work your legs and butt. & it’s nice to use all the machines that work individual sections of your muscle out like the leg extensors etc.

ellipticals burn the least calories so I feel like I’m wasting my time with those. I like the stairmaster =]

we have these machines at my gym called the abduction and adduction and they basically work your inner or outer thighs depending on which one you use. if they have them at your gym, you should definitely check them out! :)
