I always wish I was born with silky smooth hair, unfortunately it turned out the other way round. I have naturally frizzy and ‘fluffy’ hair that becomes really unruly if I don’t use a hairdryer and a great amount of hair products. Lately, I’ve noticed that none of my hair products work anymore, including my shampoo and conditioner.

I was wondering if anyone else out there faces the same issues, if so, how do u tame your hair so that it looks at least half decent? Do you blow-dry everyday like I do? Do you use any styling tools like a straightener? If so, what brand do you recommend?

Also, what shampoo and conditioner is everyone using? Thanks :)

I have super fluffy hair. Like hermione granger style (mostly). It’s really annoying, and often I feel like straightening it. It’s hardly even curly. It’s weird and and sort of curly wavy straight. What I do is I have a shower before breakfast, wrap my hair in a towel, then have breakfast, and after I’ve brushed my teeth, I take it out and brush it with an Afro comb or brush with spaced bristles, them muss it a little. It looks pretty good, natural, but if you’d feel better, you can put hair fell, or spray in it to keep it that way. I do that sometimes, coz my hair has the tendency to frizz and fluff anyways.

Fast blow drying and too much conditioner actually makes my fluffy/puffy problem worse.

I wash my hair at night, I put the conditioner in for a couple minutes, then wash my roots with shampoo, comb out any tangles, and rinse it all out at once. Then I gently blot my hair with the towel and let it air dry most of the way. I comb it a lot while it’s drying too— that seems to break up my weird curl pattern. When it’s almost all the way dry (like 95%), then I spray it with heat protectant and finish drying it with the blow dryer. Always dry it all the way, or just skip the blow dryer altogether— otherwise it will look like frizzy straw. Although the diffuser takes FOREVER, it’s the best way to do it. And don’t flip your hair upside down without the diffuser, or you will have fuzz. When my hair is completely dry but still warm, I braid it and go to bed. Then I have nice frizz-free waves in the morning.

I started using more high-end shampoos and conditioners, and I noticed it does make a difference in my hair. My local TJ Maxx carries good products at a discount, but they change their stock all the time, so I end up trying something new every time. The products always work better than the cheap drugstore stuff that strips your hair.

Besides shampoo and conditioner, It’s a 10 Miracle Shine Spray is amazing. That’s what I use for heat protectant. I also like John Frieda frizz ease flawless finishing creme for day-old hair. And of course dry shampoo for in between washings.
