One of the most beautiful things on earth for me are inspiring, or just generally nice lyrics.. So! I thought it would be perfect to make a thread dedicated to lyrics. it’s simple, just post lyrics from songs you listen to, songs that inspire you, songs that make you cry, songs that make you smile…..

I love ALL of “Possibly Maybe” by Bjork lately. I like the way it flows through the entire relationship. I don’t wanna post them all because it’s so long, but HERE’S a link haha

Other than that I’ve got a huge obsession with Interpol’s lyrics. All of them. Really. My favourite of all time though has to be the line in “Stella Was a Diver and She was Always Down” that goes “Well she was my catatonic sex toy love joy diver”

I’ve had that ONE part stuck in my mind since I first heard it.

It’s from the song “Please My Favourite Don’t Be Sad”, by the World/Inferno Friendship Society:

and the butterflies in my stomach have flown up through my throat and learnt to love the open air, the open air…

I used to be extremely anxious and shy and all that and i’ve built up a LOT of self esteem, so it’s kinda meaningful to me.

That’s my thread! lol
I love lyrics…i see them as an important part of the songs/music, usually i try to relate to…i have so many fave lyrics…

  • takes a look to his ipod to find inspiration * lol

Alanis Morisette 1st album lyrics were amazing!
It’s meeting the man of my dreams…And then meeting his beautiful wife

Bjork has great lyrics (but i love everything by her lol)
I go through all this before you wake up, so I can feel happier to be safe up here with you

Some lyrics by Damien Rice are so true as sad… :(
But do you really feel alive without me? If so, be free. If not, leave him for me.
Before one of us has accidental babies

Same goes with Dashboard Confessional, even if i find them a little more straight :)
And the people here are asking after you. It doesn’t make it easier. It doesn’t make it easier to be away

Gemma Hayes…i don’t think she’s so known, but she is amazing…
Well it’s easy to be a winner when you don’t know what you’ve lost

Someone else just said INTERPOL, i love them too :)
I can’t pretend I need to defend some part of me from you

Jeff Buckley…nothing more to say…
Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really, He has no-one…

Placebo…my teenage in lyrics lol
I don’t want to be forgotten I can’t be alone So don’t you dare leave me

Tori Amos…think she is a great songwriter :)
*how did it go so fast you’ll say as we are looking back and then we’ll understand we held gold dust in our hands *

Oh, so many. The full lyrics to Kill Hannah’s “Hit the Planes Down” always get me. They’re very strange and unconventional (as many of their early songs), yet so beautiful. By the way, some of the lyrics are arugable; the lyrics are not known for sure, all just what we think we hear.
“On that cowboy in the sky
With all the freedom of a madman
Was that shining carnival
Carousel that took me under
In one fell blow

Hit the planes down, tear the sky out
Hit the planes down, in one fell blow

Grabbed her moeny, slammed the door
Attached by hinges to the ceiling
Where her cheek bone shadows fall
Upon a face that took me under
My fuse box blows"

Also love Stabbing Westwards “Dawn”. So simple and blunt, but something about them really gets to me.
“My angel, my reluctant whore
Decided you can take no more
So let’s fuck until we fall asleep
And please don’t wake me when you leave

Just kiss me before you go
Promise to kiss me before you go

A funeral but nobody’s died
Dressed in black, feel black inside
In the morning you’ll be gone
Like a stranger that I’ve never known

So please kiss me before you go
Promise to kiss me before you go

It’s too hard now to fall asleep
So I just lie here and watch you breathe
In the morning you’ll be gone
Like everything I’ve ever loved"

its between dig by incubus and yellow by coldplay both are so pretty!
yellow- Look at the stars
look how they shine for you
and everything you do
yeah they were all yellow
I came along
I wrote a song for you
and all the things you do
and it was called yellow
So then I took my turn
oh wh at a thing to have done
and it was all yellow

your skin oh yeah your skin and bones turn into something beautiful and you know you know I love you so you know I love you so

dig-We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify.
Look me in the eye and ask for forgiveness;
We’ll make a pact to never speak that word again
Yes you are my friend.

We all have something that digs at us, At least we dig each other So when weakness turns my ego up I know you’ll count on the me from yesterday If I turn into another Dig me up from under what is covering The better part of me Sing this song Remind me that we’ll always have each other When everything else is gone.

We the Kings – Promise the Stars
Let’s take off in flight
And race through the sky
And like the hundreds of airplanes we’re floating way up high
We’ll never look down
We’ll build our own town
And like the thousands of clouds we will never touch the ground

But would you risk some broken bones
Just to call this place home
This could be home

Maybe I’m down low
Maybe I’m up high
Maybe I’m losing my own mind
You know that there are no other two hearts closer than ours
Maybe you’ll follow
Maybe you’ll stay
I’m praying you won’t give yourself away
You know that you are the only one I promise the stars
You are

I will have to agree with YOUTHAGAINSTFASHLON: Damien Rice has some of the most beautiful lyrics I’ve heard.

My absolute favorite lyrics have to be anything by Mumford and Sons, though.
Home (not released): I ran away in floods of shame
I’ll never tell how close I came
As I crossed the hollow road
Well you went left and I went right
As the moon hung proud and bright
You would have loved it here tonight

Winter Winds: And if your strife strikes at your sleep
Remember spring swaps snow for leaves
You’ll be happy and wholesome again
When the city clears and sun ascends

White Blank Page: But tell me now where was my fault, in loving you with my whole heart?

I Gave You All: How can you say that your truth is better than ours?
Shoulder to shoulder, now brother, we carry no arms
The blind man sleeps in the doorway, his home
If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy I could have won

Timshel: And I will tell the night
Whisper, “Lose your sight”
But I can’t move the mountains for you

I’ll stop here, but I encourage you all to read all of their lyrics. They are truly amazing and heartfelt. :)

“How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man? Yes and how many seas must a white dove sail before she sleeps in the sand? Yes and how many times must the cannonballs fly before they’re forever banned?” – Bob Dylan

I would like to leave this city
This old town don’t smell too pretty and
I can feel the warning signs running around my mind
And when I leave this island I’ll book myself into a soul asylum
Cos I can feel the warning signs running around my mind

So here I go, I’m still scratching around in the same old hole
My body feels young but my mind is very old
So what do you say?
You can’t give me the dreams that are mine anyway
You’re half the world away
Half the world away
Half the world away
I’ve been lost, I’ve been found but I don’t feel down.
