i basically started going to op shops and charity stores when i was about 13 or 14, because i never had any money!!
well that’s still the main reason i go, because i STILL don’t have much money, being a student and having no job, haha :P
for the past 6 months of so i’ve been trying to only buy second hand clothes (finding it difficult though). but i always manage to find stuff for cheap :D

you can also find a lot more variation in styles in op shops, and you can find items that are really unique.
also for me it’s a good form of recycling, and at most of the places i go to, it’s run by volunteers and organisations such as the salvation army, so the profits go to charity.

i don’t really buy much ‘vintage’ stuff, because all the stores i know that find and sell genuine vintage clothes- sell them out of my price range!!
but markets and garage sales are good places to find stuff :)

because it’s cheap and you’re (almost) certain nobody else will be wearing it! you can buy vintage clothes for a fraction of the price of something made by a trendy designer, and it’s probably what inspired them in the first place! or better yet, go to the thrift shop and you can try out a daring trend for like 3 bucks before you decide to shell out the cash for something you might never wear. oh, and vintage is almost always better quality than what you find in the big chains like h&m or f21.

you just struck a major cord in my fashion anatomy. ohmygod thrift shops are my number 1 source for clothing. its extremely affordable. its trendy. you can find the best stuff!
latest finds:
i found a plaid vest (soon to post), really cute!! and its actually made in scotland! then i went to H&m, they had a complete copy, for three times as much moola. haha! another find was my gladiator sandals… actually made in greece!! they only costed me $14. and thats the same price as the cheaply made ones from aeropostale. yep. i admit it… im now addicted to thrift.

i love it because you now have something that nobody else has.

i mean, im sure someone else out there has it, but someone you know? highly doubtful.

you get unique one-of-a-kind pieces. :D

I love it because you can find vintage designer stuff for nothing!
Today for example, I got a 2 YSL ties, a YSL button down with the monogram on the front, a Dior tie, a Dior Homme sweater with Dior on the front, a Lacoste sweater, a small leather vintage REAL Fendi bag that I gave to my best friend, and a Chanel sweater that I also gave to her.

I don’t usually find much/any designer stuff, but today was my lucky day, my total was $16.

I love thrift shopping, thought lately I’ve been noticing that Value Village’s prices have really gone up..even though it’s a little weird that I find $5 expensive for a shirt. I miss the days of .99 cent shirts there. The main reason I shop thrift is so I don’t look like the hundreds of American Eagle clones around me!

Thrifting is becoming more and more popular….
But I’ve loved it since I started high school (so 6-7 years).
I love it because it’s cheap, it’s cute, it’s unique and it’s fun. You can find so many interesting, unique peices, and lots of great basics too (if you look hard enough).

I also agree with cali vintage that vintage quality trumps fast fashion chain stores, hands down.

I looove vintage and thrift shopping. I think partly it’s the buzz when you find a gorgeous piece amongst all the rubbish, and usually it’s cheap and great quality and completely unique.
I love thinking about the stories for things too, and imagining who wore it before me and where. Thanks to etsy and ebay I have vintage pieces from all over the world – China, America, Australia. I like that I’m not ploughing my cash into a big company somewhere, paying kids in the middle east to sew things.

My favourite thing to buy is vintage nightwear to turn into daywear. Standards have changed and what was too short or revealing in the 40’s makes a great mini dress or tunic over jeans now.

I love browsing through thrift shops! I don’t buy much from there since most of the stuff are just basics which any chain store has, but occasionally there are some really unique pieces which I receive heaps of compliments on.

I wouldn’t get shoes from thrift stores though, unless they were new ie still had the tag on or something.

The best part about thrifting though is the peace of mind when you know you won’t walk into someone with the same outfit as you. :)
