I hope to get some helpful advise as being a guy this is probably a tricky question. The thing is, I really fancy trying out a Skirt for a change. I’m bored wearing trousers all the time, and think it would make a good change. The trouble is, I don’t know if a Skirt is a definite no no, I mean apart from the fact that Skirts are generally regarded as female attire, would the right one look too strange on me? I have looked at male kilts, but somehow just don’t like them. I am thinking that perhaps a knee length straight Skirt is more to my liking. They look smart, and I’m wondering if they would be more comfortable to wear than trousers? I really don’t know.

Being around about 5 feet 10, and slim, with slim legs, do you think a Skirt might possible work on me?

Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.

circle skirts are fun maybe a plaid or leather would work but stay away from pencil skirts because they can be extremely feminine

Hi bohoprincess, thank you for your suggestions. Not sure about the circle skirt but I do like the look of some of the plaid skirts. Perhaps an A-line plaid skirt would be the best to try? I’m also thinking of a skirt not too long, perhaps 2 or 3 inches above the knee. How about shorter? Not sure if a mini skirt is a good idea, but I could try one about 15-17 inches long maybe?

Thank you very much for your help!

Pencil skirts look really good on anyone. The problem with them it that you have to match the right skirt to your calves. If your calves are somewhat bulky and muscular I would go with a pencil skirt that hits your knee or just a little above or a little below. If your calves are slender you could try above the knee or even mid calf

Thank you priscillaraq. I must admit to really liking the look of pencil skirts. It’s encouraging that you think anybody can wear one and look good in it. I take your point about length, my legs are somewhat in between, so maybe I could try a couple of inches above my knees or less?

Hi AlexandraArva, I respect your opinion, and it may well be correct, but if I don’t try I wont know myself for sure.

Thank you for respecting my oppinion. Actually, I was wrong, because it’s your life and if you feel good about wearing a skirt, why not? ..Anyway, good luck!

Hi AlexandraArva,

that’s really kind, thank you.

This is a very good forum, so far the replies have been very constructive, not sarcastic, and honest. What more could I ask for?

i have actually seen a few guys in lookbook who wear skirts.express your individuality as long as you don’t live in an extremely conservative area with violent people.

Ok, I think I’ll try the pencil skirt and see how I get on. After trying one, I may decide it’s not for me, but at least I would have tried. Can’t help thinking that skirts look so good, well some of them anyway. It will make a real change from wearing the same old trousers all the time.

Thank you for your comments, they are very helpful.

Had the same problem more or less. I just went to the thrift store and went for it. Try out a couple different things and see what you like. Was kinda surprised at what I ended up with.

Hi JessicaLUV, thanks so much for the link. I agree their pencil skirts look really nice. I bet your new skirt looks good on you. I will probably buy one soon, perhaps have a look around my local shops to see what is available and what takes my fancy. Did you see the skirt I have been considering? The link is above.

Hi, I eventually bought myself the H&M skirt. It’s really nice to wear, just been getting used to it around the house first. Thanks for all the help.

Hi, just thought I’d give an update post if anybody is interested. It’s been a while now since I took the plunge and bought myself a Pencil Skirt. I am finding that I really do like wearing it, and although unlikely to wear it out and about, will be happy to wear a Skirt around the house. I don’t think the population is ready to accept a guy in a Skirt, and not sure that I am brave enough to venture out with my new wardrobe idea. Anyway, I like that I can feel smart and comfortable in a Skirt, albeit within the confines of my home.

I could not resist, but bought another Skirt recently! This one is a bit shorter, and really nice to wear when I want to be casual and relaxed. It’s Khaki colored, and about 2 inches above my knees. I wear it with a blue T-shirt and sandals, and feel great in it! It’s lined, and so slides over my legs. My Pencil Skirt on the other hand is not lined, so found this quite a different experience.

Anyways, thanks for the help in the past. ;-)
