I’ve decided to make a version of this dress from the Balenciaga fall 2007 collection.
I’m just wondering how to go about it.

A) I could just make a simple caftan and then sew the black and yellow and brown geometric peices on the top

B) I could cut all the pieces out and sew them together.

Option A seems easiest but Im worried that option B might be too difficult for me.
Either way I want what looks best.
Any help or advice would be SOOOOOOO helpful!

P.s. Here is the link to the picture incase the image dosnt work ..

i think that you could pretty easily adapt an existing kaftan pattern to make this; option B would be best, because by sewing patches on top of the original fabric it’s going to be heavier and the fabric may not hang as well.

You can just DIY or buy a kaftan pattern, then cut it up and add seam allowances where needed and bob’s yer uncle :)

Yeah I think thats probably the best idea. I’ve drawn a pattern out but i wasn’t really sure about what to do and i was a bit scared to start cutting fabric. i think i might make a crappy version out of muslin first to make sure the pattern is right.

thanks ! :)
