HELP...I'm going to DC to lobby for higher education and want to look smart AND chic!!!

I work for a pretty well-known private university in New York City, and as part of my job I was asked to go to DC to lobby at the end of the month on behalf of our students; my question is what kinds of clothes would look great on me, i.e. smart, capable YET still chic and classy? I have the usual wide legged black trousers, but I’d like to add more to an outfit than the typical white shirt, black blazer, boring shoes, blah blah. Any tips? I work in an office environment and usually wear nice things to work, lots of funky jewelry and high heels but I know that how I present myself on this trip will be nearly as important as what I accomplish in my meetings (which shouldn’t be the case, but we all want to look good and be received well, right)?? HELP!!!!
