lately i’ve been noticing a lot of chictopians smoking in their pics. I wanted to throw it out there and see what people thought. Does it make you look more stylish? (is it fashionable to smoke) Is it something you should quit? Dont care what others think? just wondering… |

I don’t think smoking is fashionable, i mean it can bring upon an idea of a certain stereotype which may be fashionable. I myself smoke and i certainly don’t think that when i hold a cigarette i look nicer, smoking doesn’t represent good taste, they’re just a very nice vice ! |

I think some people believe it to be fashionable. I’ve noticed The Sartorialist take pictures of people smoking, including himself as well. Personally, it turns me off from looking at the picture. |

i am a chainsmoker and quite frankly could give two shits about what anybody else would think about my bad habbit. smoking is just that..a bad habbit. smoking has nothing to do with fashion nor does it constitute what is “stylish or chic”. |

I don’t think anyone should smoke, or glamorize it. Without getting too personal, I have never smoked a cigarette in my life and I have had to battle cancer once as a teen and now again as a young adult. No, not lung cancer, but I think the point remains that you have a choice to not introduce those carcinogens into your body. It kind of walks all over the people who face the disease, in whatever form, without making that choice. It’s a horrible thing and shouldn’t have anything to do with style or fashion. It’s also a terribly unimaginative prop. Get creative already. Call me idealistic but I want to be defined by my good habits, not the bad ones. |

It can be very glamorous. Le Smoking and In the Mood for Love are good examples. Having said that, I don’t smoke. |

I think smoking is still seen as fashionable and sexy. Personally, I wouldn’t want someone to take a picture of me smoking. I would only like to see a picture of someone smoking if they were smoking through a cigarette holder. |

kay so smoking is bad and we all know that, but i think smoking has a certain sexiness and allure to it. look at carrie from sex and the city. and in the 50s and 60s everyone smoked (albeit that was before it was considered “bad”) and it was a total “in” thing to do. and i don’t think that’s disappeared from culture today at all. |

smokin is bad…dont ever start |

It has a certain stylish look to it, but it’s side effects are undesirable. I also know some people who just put it to their mouths and never inhale. Sometimes it feels a bit fake though, when someone pulls out a cigarette and puts the look on their face like they are the shit. |
oh my gosh. People do it to look stylish, and if you succumb to that your outfit just looks bad in my opinion. Its no trend, unless getting lung cancer can qualify as “cool.” |
not a fan of it at all, or in pictures but to each his own! |
They (smoking companies etc.) intended it to be fashionable and they made it fashionable. Now it’s considered sexy and chic because of older movies and the style they created around it |
I dont think its fashionable, but you have to admit that when you see see someone smoking you are going to think they are “badass”, (oh I hate that word, haha) And some people want to be thought of in that way. I know that people try cigarettes to be cool and then as a consequence get addicted to them i.e. ME. So Yeah. Bad, Stupd Juvenile mistakes. |
Oh and I should add that I tried it when I was really young (13), I thought I was pretty tight |
Yes, it seems that smoking is seen as being “cool”. Thank god smoking is banned in clubs and bars now so people don’t have to whip out a cigarrette to look cool. |
I only smoke in pictures by accident because I get bored while having my photo taken ad my solution to boredom is smoking. Bad excuse, I know. |

“A cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want?” |

Smoking does bring to mind some top fashion photos, but then again, models in those same top fashion photos look like they’re drug addicts or atleast anorectics. It’s some sickly imagery, and something in that trashy, ugly and dirty feel is something that appeals to people, and I have to admit, myself. Maybe it’s that it feels somehow more “real” than people with healthy looking smiles and fats. I know, it’s sickening to be aware that there are such thought patterns going around, but I guess that’s what it is. I’d like to see fashion and top-fashion move far away from those sickly-looking and harsh photoshoots – reality can be as pretty as it is ugly. |

there’s definitely an edge about smoking. as much as i hate my boyfriend smoking newports (the smell), he does look mighty fine doing it…. that’s just my preference. i don’t smoke myself. |

im a smoker and i love seeing people smoking in pictures the left wing liberal in me just wants to scream thank god there are people who get its a choice made by people old enough to decide for themselves. i think in pics its a matter of interpritation i think its a strong statement about freedom and individual rights, others might think its aweful and others might think its glamerous, LEAVE SMOKERS ALONE lol |
uhhh even if smoking is fashionable i think it makes you look kind of like a dumbass. because no matter how chic it is wouldn’t someone who’s educated not do something that could potentially kill them… |
